
This was the 2nd part of the portfolio I put together back in 1997 for a gaming job. It was just about this time when everyone was moving towards complete 3d environments and flats were a thing of the past. As a result the ability to create animated 3d human figures was paramount.
Because video card technology was still not quite there yet the limitations on the number of polygons you could use was still fairly restrictive (nothing like when I first got into the industry, where if you had a 45 polygon object you were risking some serious slow-down for your players).
This guy uses under 100 polygons and I must say that I felt like I was cheating; putting him together was fairly simple, it was the texturing that took most of the time.
The animation below is basically unfinished. I had meant to composite in some weapons effects, but just never had the time.
